PayPal has been flooded by complaints from angry Kiwis over payment delays to their bank accounts.

The delays have had flow-on effects, forcing companies to take out emergency loans, and preventing others from paying suppliers.

Hamish Coulter, the owner of Muscle Fuel, says the situation has been damaging for his company.

"It's really, really affected our cashflow - like most businesses in the food industry we have a high turnover," he says. "We've had to dig deep into our pockets."

In total, he says the PayPal debacle has cost him "$30,000 and counting. Every day it's more and more".

PayPal has blamed the problems on "a brief technical issue yesterday during a planned system update".

"[It] resulted in some consumers being unable to see a transaction in their account history after it had processed."

However, Mr Coulter says there's no fix in sight for him or his company.

"PayPal hasn't given us any indication on when the money will be paid," he says.

"It's impossible to get hold of anyone to give you a solid answer."

PayPal staff have been busy responding to the messages from frustrated New Zealanders.

"Hello, we can certainly understand the frustration and confusion this has caused. There was a technical issue with receiving funds and the issue has been fixed. PayPal is working to have all transactions reflected accurately for both consumers and merchants. We apologize for any inconvenience," says a PayPal representative on their Facebook account.

However, this isn't enough for Mr Coulter, who's now out of pocket.

"I have no faith in PayPal," he says. "They just haven't helped at all. They've been ignoring New Zealand companies."

And others agree.

"Oh look paypal another NZ person that's having trouble with getting money into there bank account! [sic]" said one disgruntled Kiwi on Facebook.

"Are you kidding me!"
