New Zealand's crowd funding bid to buy Awaroa Inlet in the Abel Tasman National Park has been successful.

Duane Major told Paul Henry a total 39, 249 Kiwis raised $2,278,171.09.

He says at 10:57pm last night they had confirmation the beach was New Zealand's

"It's a collaborative effort."

Mr Major was excited to see the idea pull through and include the whole the Kiwi population.

"We've done it for our children," he says.

"Well done New Zealand, let's get our bank accounts ready."
