Kemp Reweti was born and bred in Bulls, but he says the harp was the last instrument any Bulls native was going to learn.

Reweti's beloved harp is like his third child. It's become a big part of his life after taking his first lesson three years ago.

Reweti decided to use his music to support the people of Standing Rock by posting a video on the internet.

The video, filmed by the polluted Manawatū River in Palmerston North where he now resides, has been viewed 14,000 times.

Reweti told TV3's The Hui his responsibility as kaitiaki of his own whenua and water connects him to the people of Standing Rock and their protest of the installation of the Dakota pipeline.

Learning the harp has not been easy for the father of two. He says it tested his wife's patients when his playing wasn't so good.

But Reweti says the ability to raise awareness of the Dakota pipeline issue through his music has been well worth the hardships.
