The last hotspot from yesterday's Wither Hills fire in Blenheim has been dampened and the area will be reopened to the public midday today.

Marlborough Kaikoura Rural Fire Authority principal fire officer Richard McNamara says there was just one hot spot left from the five hectare burnt-out area this morning, which fire fighters have now dealt with.

Mr McNamara says the fire began near one of the public walking tracks on the Wither foothills, where hundreds were walking and biking over the weekend.

Four helicopters with monsoon buckets swept across the hills, after the blaze broke from the drought conditions and the steep slopes of the farm park.

Although the track will be open, Mr McNamara suggests avoiding the Gentle Annie walking track.

"Anyone going into that area will be walking through cinders," he said.

A fire investigator's scene examination will be referred to the police.

Mr McNamara says the fire was started by human action.

A total fire ban remains in place across Marlborough.
