Livestream: Havelock North water contamination meeting

Havelock North residents will get their first chance to vent their frustrations with the council at a public meeting on the water contamination problem.

Hastings District Council will be holding the first meeting at the Riverbend Bible Church, where up to 500 people are expected attend.

The church will be livestreaming the meeting.

Another meeting will be held on Wednesday.

The council says the meetings are a way to be transparent with the public about what is happening.

Earlier this month, the area was hit with a gastro bug after the water supply was contaminated with e. coli. Around 5000 people were affected, with many getting violently ill, in an unprecedented mass illness.

The Government has since launched an independent inquiry looking into how the water source became contaminated and the response from local and central government.
