Smoking in public places is now off limits in Lower Hutt after a new policy was passed last night.
The banned spots include:
Mayor Ray Wallace says it is about creating a healthier community.
"What we're trying to encourage is getting a culture change in our community," Wallace says.
"Our community has told us loud and clear that they support this."
Wallace said he is confident other regions will follow suit.
