A Lower Hutt fish and chip shop has won the crown of That's Life 'Best Chip Shop', ahead of five other regional winners.

So Fine Seafoods, in the suburb of Avalon, was one of 400 shops from around the country entered in the contest, in which competitors were subject to a combination of text voting, mystery judging and chip fat analysis.

The six regional winners and grand national winner were then chosen by a panel of judges.

So Fine Seafoods owners Anthony Cho and his wife Jian Huan Zhou bought the shop in 2003 and first entered the competition in 2006, when they were regional finalists. The following year they were regional winners.

Mr Cho said this year's title was a "dream come true".

The regional winners were: Oceanz Albany, Auckland (Northland to North Shore region); Diamond Takeaways, Remuera (Rest of Auckland); Oppie's Fish & Chips, Rotorua (Waikato to Hawke's Bay); So Fine Seafoods, Lower Hutt (Manawatu to Wellington); Lyttelton Fisheries, Lyttelton (Nelson to Christchurch); Oscar's, Alexander (Timaru to Southland).
