A man assaulted by partygoers in Lower Hutt early on Sunday morning is unlikely to survive, say police.
He was found with serious head injuries on Seddon St in Naenae at 3:27am and is currently in Hutt Hospital's intensive care unit.
Police say the man was chased by a group of people who were at a 21st party on Cleland Cres. The party was attended by more than 30 people, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with assault, and further charges may be laid. He will appear in the Lower Hutt District Court on Monday.
