A West Auckland man has appeared in the Waitakere District Court charged in relation to a sexually-motivated assault on a six-year-old girl on New Year’s Day.
The 20-year-old, who has been granted name suppression, is charged with kidnapping and assault with intent to commit sexual violation.
The girl was playing with two others on Glendene Ave, when it is alleged they were approached by the man who is said to have grabbed her, taken her to a nearby creek in Glendene Reserve and begun assaulting her.
The girl's mother heard screams and ran to help and managed to rescue her daughter, the offender fled the scene.
Police arrested the man yesterday.
The girl was not injured in the attack, but police say she was left shaken.
The accused was remanded in custody and will appear in court next month to enter a plea.
