Police have arrested a 36-year-old man in relation to the assault and murder of a Christchurch man last night.
Simon Prue, 41, was found dead on the Heathcote River bank, near Ferry Rd.
At the time police said they were talking to a man in relation to the death, and that there was no threat to public safety. Today they confirmed they have made an arrest.
The scene near Ferry Rd was cordoned off, but will likely be opened to the public later today.
As the incident unfolded last night, social media users posted about seeing police at the riverbank, and the use of CPR.
Police say they can no longer comment on the case because it's now going before the courts.
