An elderly man has died after a house fire in the Lower Hutt suburb of Wainuiomata.
Emergency services arrived at the house just after 2am this morning to find it fully ablaze.
The fire was limited to a single flat in a complex of six, was well involved upon the arrival of the fire crews and has been extensively damaged.
A search of the address once the fire was extinguished found the man. He is believed to be the sole elderly male occupant.
Four fire engines were used and fire fighters are still at the scene dampening it down.
