Man threatened in Christchurch road rage incident

Police are investigating a case of road rage, after a motorist was allegedly threatened with a metal bar in Christchurch this morning.

Acting Senior Sergeant Melanie Noonan says the driver of a white van is reported to have approached the driver of a transport truck and threatened him with the weapon.

"The van driver returned to his vehicle and while leaving the scene collided with the other driver who had got out of his truck. The truck driver was treated at the scene and did not require transport to hospital," she says.

Members of the public then came to the assistance of the truck driver.

Police say the incident happened around 8:40am on Riccarton Rd, near the intersection with Clarence St.

The van driver will be interviewed by police tomorrow.

"Police understand that photographs of the incident have been posted on Facebook and urge the public to think before commenting as this could affect our on-going investigation into this incident," Snr Sgt Noonan says.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information or images is asked to contact police on (03) 363 7400.
