Man who fled hospital may be in 'life-threatening' condition

Police have grave concerns for a 48-year-old man who discharged himself from an Auckland hospital despite suffering a head injury that caused bleeding in his brain.

Leni Namono left Middlemore Hospital on Sunday morning after being admitted there on Saturday night with the serious injury.

The hospital's staff are worried that Mr Namono could die if he does not return and receive the medical care he needs.

Police are on the lookout for Mr Namono and are seeking the public's assistance to find the Pacific Islander, who is described as being of a solid build.

It is thought that he was at a property on Moa St in Otahuhu last night, before arriving at Middlemore Hospital.

Police advise anyone who sees Mr Namono to call 111 immediately.
