Tributes have flowed on social media for 36-year-old Marcus Tucker, who was found dead in Canterbury on Monday.

His body, believed to be burnt, was found midday on Monday near the Lake Ellesmere waterfront, at the end of Drain Rd in the Doyleston area.

People have taken to Facebook to share their thoughts for his family and friends.

"No matter what bad decisions Marcus made throughout his life he didn't deserve to go out like this. Thoughts are with his mother, father, brother and son," one person wrote.

"I remember you when you were about 12 we went to school together," wrote another. "I remember your huge smile and you always laughing and joking. R.I.P. Marcus. no matter what anyone says I will always remember you happy go lucky and smiling [sic]."

Others have asked for justice to be served, and want those responsible found.

Police confirmed the body was Mr Tucker yesterday afternoon after forensic identification. They launched a homicide inquiry and cordoned off the area from the intersection of Drain Rd and The Lake Rd. Investigators have searched the drains and grass of the road looking for clues.

Yesterday divers scoured the shallows of Lake Ellesmere. Police say the search won't include neighbouring farmland.

An email was sent to all petrol stations in the wider Canterbury region at the beginning of the week asking for details of transactions $30 or less from last Wednesday to Monday this week. Any suspicious behaviour within this timeframe was also asked to be reported.

Police are continuing to investigate. Mr Tucker's body was taken away in a hearse on Tuesday.
