A motorcycle accident took a dramatic turn this afternoon after one of the motorbike's riders went inside a nearby property and stole a car.
The incident occured when a motorcycle left the road, carrying tandem riders. The vehicle crashed into a ditch on State Highway 26 in Morrinsville.
One of the motorcycle riders was moderately to seriously injured in the crash; the other rider left the scene.
The fleeing rider entered a nearby house, before taking a set of car keys and stealing the resident's vehicle.
Police pursued the vehicle for a short time before abandoning the chase due to the behaviour of the driver.
The driver then crashed the vehicle, and was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
CIB and the serious crash unit are investigating.
