Motorcyclist dead after Hawke's Bay crash

A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash in the Hawke's Bay.

According to Inspector Mike Coleman, a vehicle collided with a motorcycle on the corner of State Highway 5 and Hill Rd in Eskdale, Napier and the motorcyclist has died at the scene.

The motorcyclist was in a convoy and other riders have probably witnessed the accident, Insp Coleman says.

There were two occupants in the vehicle.

Insp Coleman says the road will be closed for at least 45 minutes to an hour and police are on the scene talking to witnesses along with the serious crash unit.

Insp Coleman advises motorists to avoid the area if possible.

The death is the fifth on North Island roads during the long Waitangi Day weekend.
