Australian-owned outdoor gear retailer Mountain Designs is closing down in New Zealand due to tough trading conditions.
The company told its Kiwi customers that it is closing its 12 stores on the North and South Islands.
"We have found it unviable to continue trading in New Zealand," it said on its website.
It cited the slow economy and difficult trading times in New Zealand as the primary reason behind its decision to close its stores.
They said their experience was similar to several large international retailers who have fallen on hard times in the Kiwi market.
Mountain Designs brand and marketing director Gavin Flannery told Fairfax that as many as 70 jobs would be affected by the closures.
