Freezing temperatures have meant the snow making guns have been switched on at Canterbury ski field Mt Hutt.
The snowmaking system has been producing around three tonnes of snow every minute for the last 20 hours, adding to the 30 centimetre base of snow already covering the field.
About 55 guns are currently operating on the mountain and temperatures are expected to remain cold for the remainder of the week.
Mt Hutt is set to open mid-June.
