Napier Work and Income in lockdown

The public is being reminded to watch what they say when talking on the phone after a man who threatened Napier Work and Income staff caused a lockdown.

The office reopened on Wednesday afternoon after being put in lockdown when the man called staff and threatened them.

Police received a call just after midday from Work and Income staff; they took the matter seriously and sent officers to look into the incident.

After contacting the man who threatened staff, police say he is regretful for his words.

"It's a timely reminder to people that they should choose carefully words that they use when talking on the phone to any business or any person. They will be taken seriously and action will be taken.  Police staff acted appropriately and as far as I am concerned the matter was dealt with extremely well," says Acting Senior Sergeant Nigel Hurley.

The cordons around the site have been lifted and police considering if charges will be laid.
