New e-therapy counselling for youth

The government is introducing a new online counselling service, called e-therapy which it hopes will help youth at risk of suicide.

One in five kiwi youth are affected by depression and New Zealand has one of the worst suicide rates in the world - especially among young men.

The move is part of a $62 million package of initiatives aimed at bringing the suicide rate down.

Teenagers will also be targeted through social networking and smartphone technology.

The moves will be reviewed in two years to see if they are working.
