New Zealand stores celebrate Free Comic Book Day

Comic fans around the world will invade stores to celebrate the annual event of Free Comic Book Day.

Shops around New Zealand will be opening their doors for one day to give away free comic books.

The international event first began in 2002 in the United States and has since grown into a world wide celebration that is celebrated on the first Saturday of May each year.

Stores all around the world hand out free comics, with the number of free books varying between stores.

Some stores around New Zealand will be offering extra comic books to people who arrive dressed as comic book characters, while other will be giving away merchandise.

Stores around the country celebrating Free Comic Book Day:

Auckland – Arkham City is located in the Royal Oak Mall off Manukau Rd. They will be open from 9am till 5pm and will be giving away extra comics for those in costume.

Heroes for Sale is based in central Auckland at 582 Karangahape Rd and will be open from 10am till 5pm.

Hamilton – Mark One Comics, located at 551 Victoria St, will be open from 9am till 5pm and will begiving away free comics as well as kids packs.

Wellington – Graphic will be giving away free comics at their store in Cuba Mall between  10:30 and 4pm and will also have stall at Wellington Central Library from 9:30am till 2:30.

Christchurch – Comic Compulsion is located at 58 Main North Rd, Papanui. It will be open from 10am till 5am and will be giving away one free comic to every person who comes into the store.
