No rain on Hurricanes' victory parade

Thousands lined the streets on a glorious Wellington day to celebrate the Hurricanes' historic Super Rugby title on Wednesday.

It's the first time the team has claimed the title after 21 trying years, and they did it in atrocious conditions against the Lions at Westpac Stadium on Saturday.

But they couldn't have asked for better weather today, with the sun shining over the capital and no threat of rain on their parade.

The parade also served as a send-off for a number of players, including Victor Vito, who marked his 100th cap at the final.

Hurricanes flanker Ardie Savea paid tribute to the man he described as "everything" to the club.

"What he does for this club is unexplainable. A lot of the young guys look up to him, especially myself. He's going to be a huge loss to the franchise but surely there's going to be someone to fill his boots."

Vito himself said the sweet win "means the world to me", even comparing it to the Rugby World Cup.

"It's one thing to win a world cup and be part of that sort of stuff, but you're born and bred in a certain place and Wellington City's been it for me and to bring it back home for our region and Wellington as well is awesome."

All along the parade route from Parliament to Civic Square, the team signed autographs on everything from flags to rugby balls, hats and posters.
