A woman has disappeared without a trace after police found her crashed vehicle in Kawatiri this morning.
Rachel Stokes' car was found on SH6 near Kawatiri Junction in the Tasman District. A search and rescue operation began at 9am and several ground search teams have scoured the immediate area, police say. A helicopter and a search dog were also sent out.
The search has so far failed to find any trace of Ms Stokes and police are appealing for members of the public who may have seen her, or offered her a ride, to come forward.
Ms Stokes, 46, is described as European.
