Police in Northland and north Auckland are carrying guns as they continue to search for two men who are considered dangerous.

Last Thursday, police raided a house looking for Mark Andrew Fletcher, 39, who ran from officers north of Whangarei. Two guns were found in the raid.

Early on Friday morning Joshua Mason Kite, 33, allegedly crashed his car and fired at two chasing police officers in the Whangarei suburb of Kensington before stealing the police car and fleeing.

Both men are still on the run.

Kite has previous convictions for three armed robberies in Auckland in 2007 and has been wanted for allegedly possessing methamphetamine for supply.

He's wanted on a parole recall warrant, is described as about 1.83m tall and having brown curly hair. He was wearing a blue t-shirt with white writing and a brown zip-up hoodie.

On Sunday, police searched a property at Kaiwaka and cleared the property without finding Kite.

Fletcher ran barefoot from police, and though he is not thought to be armed, police say he should not be approached.
