Labour Weekend road toll rises to two

The Labour weekend road toll now stands at two, after a person died overnight from injuries sustained in a head-on collision near Paekakariki on Sunday.

She was Te Rauoriwa Daphne Pomare, 79, from Levin.

The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.

Another crash at 4:35am on Sunday near Pokeno killed one person, when a car collided with a truck and the highway's median strip.

The official holiday period for Labour Day Weekend began at 4pm on Friday and will end at 6am on Tuesday morning.

Five people died on our roads during the 2015 Labour Day holiday period.
