A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder after the death of a woman in Ōpōtiki on Tuesday night.
Police had initially responded to reports of a domestic dispute at the Wellington St address.
Attempts to perform CPR on the woman failed and the man was taken into custody.
He will appear in court on Wednesday and police have launched a homicide investigation.
In a separate incident, also near Ōpōtiki, a 39-year-old man was attacked by a group of men wielding a machete and a steel pipe on Tuesday evening.
He was flown to hospital after the incident on Opape Beach Rd.
Police are investigating the attack, and say the two events are unlikely to be related.
