Otago house fire not suspicious

A fire at a house on Otago Peninsula last night is not being treated as suspicious.

Portobello and St Kilda fire crews responded to the blaze on Harrington Point Rd about 10:30pm last night. A fire spokesperson says firefighters found the house "well ablaze", with flames coming out the roof and windows.

It is thought the house has been abandoned.

It took crews four hours to get it under control, including salvage work to fully extinguish the blaze. A thermal imaging camera was also used to check for hot spots.

The fire service says an investigator is not needed and police weren't notified as they are satisfied with the cause of the fire, although unable to say what that was.
