Palmerston North has often got a bad rap for being the place where there's nothing to do – however, things may have changed.

There's a new star attraction that has got locals stripping off in excitement.

Palmerston North's new waterslides is getting former mayor Jono Naylor down to his swimsuit and buzzing with excitement.

He says the two new slides are the biggest thing to hit Palmerston North ever.

One slide can get you travelling up to 60 km/h, and the other is the only superbowl slide in the North Island – it's painted in the colours of the region's rugby team.

Apart from the turbos and now the waterslides, residents 3 News spoke to could only think of a few other attractions worth visiting, including the town square, the skate park and the Palmerston North Burger King.

Lyndon Noakes has worked at the Lido Pools for 17 years. He says seeing the slides built are a career highlight.

"I'm so excited," he says. "I love working here and I'm sure all the staff love it as well".

Pool staff are proud to say their waterslides are finally putting Palmerston North on the map.
