An Air New Zealand flight from Palmerston North to Christchurch was evacuated after a bomb threat on Saturday.

The plane was met by police on arrival at Christchurch Airport after a threatening call to the airline's call centre, and passengers and crew were evacuated onto the tarmac at 3pm.

"We've just been quickly escorted off our flight at Christchurch airport by Police as there has been a bomb threat made to the aircraft," says Mark Andrew Grace on Facebook.

"Sniffer dogs are going on board. We've all been checked by sniffer dogs and all our bags are getting x rayed."

Police and Aviation Security searched the plane, passengers and luggage, but found no evidence of an explosive.

Officers are now continuing their investigation to establish the source of the threat.
