PHOTOS: Fog rolls into Wellington

Thick sea fog has rolled into parts of Wellington today, disrupting the run of hot weather and blue skies.

But the cloud band, which came in from the south, is expected to burn off this afternoon.

Flights in and out of Wellington airport have not been affected, despite the fog heading its way.

A Metservice spokesperson says the sea fog is caused by warm air above the cold ocean cooling down and reaching a point of saturation.

“The sun will heat the cloud and it will disappear when it moves over warm land,” the spokesperson says.

The Wellington region is forecast to have 10 days of good, hot weather – something which is extremely rare.

Rain is expected to end the hot spell early next week.
