Photos of empty Marmite jars donated by celebrities will be auctioned off to help rebuild Christchurch.
New Zealand celebrities including Rachel Hunter, Sir Graham Henry, Jaquie Brown and Trelise Cooper have given their scraped-clean Marmite jars to photographer and New Zealand’s Next Top Model judge Chris Sisarich who has captured the beauty of the emptiness.
“The imagery inside each jar is extremely distinctive, it’s more than just an empty Marmite jar,” he says.
“It’s evident that everyone has been scraping at the bottom to get every last bit out – I know I have – and I hope that other Kiwis are taking a moment to reflect on the difficulties of the past two years for Christchurch as they reach the bottom of their jars.”
To raise money for the Rebuild Christchurch Foundation one original photograph of each celebrity’s Marmite jar will be auctioned off and framed with a signed lid.
Marmite disappeared from New Zealand supermarket shelves in March after the Christchurch factory had to close for repairs after earthquake damage. It is still unknown when Marmite will be available again.
Sanitarium general manager Pierre van Heerden is pleased to see the empty jars in use.
“It is wonderful to see these last, treasured Marmite reserves used to raise funds for the Christchurch community.”
The jars will be auctioned at www.abeautifulstruggle.co.nz from November 30 to December 9.
