Police arrest Dunedin man after home invasion

Dunedin police have arrested a 21-year-old man in relation to an attack on a woman at her Duncan St home yesterday.

The man faces a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Dunedin District Court today. Police say further serious charges are also likely.

The victim remains in Dunedin Hospital, recovering from surgery after the attack. She has yet to speak to police. 

It is understood the woman suffered stab wounds to her kneck and face, after she fought off the attacker as he punched and stabbed her in her home. She managed to escape with her young daughter.

No one else is being sought in relation to the attack.
