'Vicious' alleged dairy robber arrested

Police have arrested the man they believe is responsible for a "vicious" aggravated robbery of a Papatoetoe dairy captured on camera.

The 34-year-old man has been charged with the July 7 offence along with 14 other robberies in the Auckland and Waikato areas.

He will appear in the Manukau District Court on Monday, facing 15 charge of aggravated robbery.

"Police are very pleased this individual has been identified and arrested," says Counties Manukau Police Detective Inspector Fa'amanuia Va'aelua.

"We hope this will go some way to helping reassure the community."

A manhunt was launched to find the perpetrator with police believing he was strategically picking vulnerable victims.

The prolonged attack on the Papatoetoe dairy worker, caught on CCTV, was one of the most vicious police had seen.

In the video, which lasts 41 seconds, the attacker unleashes a savage beating on his victim, who lies defenceless on the ground.
