The Northland Serious Crash Unit is investigating a fatal crash which occurred yesterday evening on State Highway 1 in Hikurangi.
A 48-year-old male was killed after he was struck by a van travelling south. Police say ambulances were called to the accident at around 8pm, however the man died at the scene.
SH1 was closed and reopened at 11:30pm.
The driver of the vehicle is assisting police with their investigation.
