Marlborough police are investigating a complaint from two young Blenheim women whose home-made porn video went viral.

The women have received a barrage of unwanted attention after the footage was shared on social media.

Police are examining on-line comments to try and establish if an offence has been committed.

But NetSafe executive director Martin Cocker says officers can't always act.

"Police are limited in terms of what they can do to protect users who got themselves into this situation. Certainly if people harass the makers of the video or threaten them in anyway police can take action against that."

The women are understood to be in their late teens and early 20s.
