Police seek info on Hastings home invasion

Police hope the public can help identify a man who broke into a home and assaulted an elderly Hastings couple.

The offender, described as in his late teens, smashed a window at around 8:15am to gain entry into the Longland Rd property.

The noise woke the couple, aged in their 70s, who confronted the intruder. The culprit assaulted the husband, and then fled in a dark-coloured sedan.

The husband received medical attention for minor injuries. His wife was not injured.

Detective John Brans of the Hawke's Bay CIB says the couple are understandably shaken.

"They have been supported by family and Victim Support today after what was a traumatic incident.

"We would like to hear from anyone who saw a man in his late teens acting suspiciously in or around the Longlands Rd area this morning between 7am and 8:30am."

Anyone with information can call Hastings police on (06) 831 0700 or provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
