Man found dead in Waikato River named

The man whose body was found on Sunday in the Waikato River has been identified as Hamilton man Anthony Chanpraseuth.

Police say Mr Chanpraseuth drowned and they are now trying to find out what happened in the lead-up to his death.

His body was found at around 7:50am on Sunday by a member of public who was out for a walk, around 200m north of the Hamilton Rowing Club.

Mr Chanpraseuth was wearing black shoes, black trousers and a black short-sleeved shirt when he drowned, police say.

Anyone who may have seen him in Hamilton late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning is asked to contact police on (07) 858 6200.
