Auckland turned on its pride lights for the first time last night in four locations across the city.

It's the latest event of Auckland's Pride Festival, which is now in its second and final week.

Manurewa MP and chair of Labour's rainbow caucus Louisa Wall and Auckland Pride Festival trustee Lexie Matheson appeared on Firstline this morning, to discuss gender identity issues, gay rights and how the Pride Festival has been going this year.

Ms Matheson says it's important for the GLBT community to have a voice, and society is getting better at understanding and accepting different lifestyles and orientations.
