Prue Taylor welcomes in academic year

The principal of Christchurch Girls High School returned to work today after her very public sacking and subsequent reinstatement last year.

Prue Taylor has spent the morning welcoming the new academic year and says it is “wonderful” to be back.

“It was just really great to be back and see the familiar faces and see girls entering their last year of school and looking forward to what lies ahead,” she says.

But if the school’s Board of Trustees had their way Ms Taylor would be gone, after it attempted and failed to get rid of her in November last year.

The principal says that she is relieved to be back but wants to put the events of 2012 behind her.

“There’s lots of exciting and interesting things that go in a school and those are the things to be focusing on,” she says.

Initially Ms Taylor had been allowed back pending an employment court hearing in February but that action has been dropped.

An Employment Relations Authority found her dismissal “procedurally and possibly substantively unjustified”.
