Staff aboard a Qantas plane flying to New Zealand arrived here donning All Blacks jerseys after the airliner lost a bet with competitor Air New Zealand.

The two companies agreed staff would wear their rivals' jerseys if their nation's team lost the Rugby World Cup final, with the Australian airline paying the price for the Wallabies' 34-17 loss to the All Blacks at Twickenham yesterday.

Qantas honoured its side of the deal, with crew members on flight QF143 greeting passengers decked out in All Blacks garb.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull also had to face the consequences of the All Blacks' victory, wearing a black tie in Parliament.

Mr Turnbull had previously said it would be "cool" to see Prime Minister John Key wearing a gold tie if the Wallabies won – a comment he may now regret.
