Activists from Racial Equity Aotearoa have braved Friday morning's bad weather to protest outside Auckland's High Court against the "racist" justice system.

"Our entire justice system (police, courts, prisons, probation) is inherently racist," the groups said in a post on Facebook.

"Maori, especially wahine, and the wider [people of colour] community continue to be systemic casualties to the Government's punitive policies that perpetuate racism in Aotearoa New Zealand."

The groups wants people to know about alternatives to the "prison-industrial complex", and a "community dialogue to create new policies to address the harm caused by our judicial system".

Racial Equity Aotearoa describes itself as an "intersectional group aiming to combat systemic racism and build social equity".
