Thousands of Kiwis will today be donning red noses as part of the annual Cure Kids campaign.

A number of events are being held around the country to help raise money, and CEO Vicki Lee hopes to top last year's haul of $1.6 million.

To assist in that, Red Nose Day is going digital for the first time.

"If you text NOSE to 933, you can download our hongi app, and you can hongi, which is signifying the breath of life," says Ms Lee. "[There] is no better way than that to celebrate human life and the children of New Zealand."

Money raised during Red Nose Day goes towards life-saving research.

"Improving the health of children is a priority for all of us," says Ms Lee.

Firstline reporter Alex O'Hara popped down to central Auckland this morning, where athletes were running on treadmills for the cause – watch the video. Click here to find out more about Red Nose Day, and other ways you can donate.

Note: texting NOSE to 933 will also donate $3 to Cure Kids.
