Refurbished National Library to reopen
New Zealand's National Library will be reopened in Wellington on Tuesday following a $65 million refurbishment.
The Government decided to refurbish the 1987 library building in 2008 after problems of collection safety and ageing infrastructure were identified, along with the switch to digital media.
National Librarian Bill Macnaught said the refurbished library would provide welcoming public spaces, interactive digital facilities, and reflect the focus of a 21st century knowledge centre.
The important Alexander Turnbull Library, held at the National Library, was reopened in August.
Today's ceremony begins with speeches at 7am and will include a karakia before the public spaces open at 8:30am.
