While out and about in Auckland today, Prince Charles met a sweaty rugby player, and was well and truly sweated on, while his wife watched a stage show version of the beloved children’s book ‘Hairy Maclary’.
The events might sound a bit alarming when the Queen's told over breakfast, but actually her son seemed to enjoy his experience, while her daughter-in-law Camilla clearly did.
When the royals come to town there are strict protocols in place, and there's a fine line between adoration and stalking. But Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall didn't seem to mind the relaxed Kiwi approach to state affairs. In fact, it suited their style.
Shot putter Jacko Gill was one of those who met Prince Charles today.
“I was expecting kind of a serious talk but he was actually really just a down-to-earth guy, and I was really surprised kind of just how normal he was,” he says.
The obligatory royal walkabout drew crowds to Auckland’s Queen St, despite some wet weather.

The downpour put the dampener on a pensioner flash mob. They'd planned to dance, sing and dazzle the royals, but one can't dilly-dally when the weather turns inclement.
Tomorrow the royal couple are having a day off from official engagements. On Wednesday it's Prince Charles' birthday and they'll be heading to Wellington to celebrate.
