Horowhenua police are still investigating a possible link between a fire at a gang house, and a missing gang associate.

An arson scene examination was completed at a property in Hokio Beach, believed to be associated with members of the Nomad Gang.

It was gutted in a suspicious fire last month.

Police are also investigating the disappearance of local Nomads gang associate Palmiro George MacDonald Jnr, who hasn't been seen since March 23.

"It's not clear what, if any, links the two events may have," says Detective Inspector Ross McKay.

"We are aware there is [a lot] of speculation and rumour in the community as to the possible reasons for Mr MacDonald's disappearance, and where he may be, which at the moment is exactly that -- speculation."

But Det Insp McKay admits the disappearance is out of character, and they are concerned for his safety.

Police are also quelling concerns about a possible conflict as a result of the disappearance, saying there's nothing at this stage to indicate it's likely, and they're monitoring the situation.
