An Auckland woman who has more than 500 descendants has celebrated her 100th birthday.

So'onalote Tanuvasa marked the occasion with her huge family, which includes some of Samoa's most famous personalities.

Ms Tanuvasa can't believe she's made it to 100.

She's outlived five of her children, but there are still 13 left to celebrate with.

Her grandchildren can't believe Ms Tanuvasa is still with them, because they say they feel old themselves. Some have grandchildren too.

And even her famous great-grandchildren can't keep track.

"There are too many," says boxer David Tua.

The number of great-great-grandchildren is more than 100.

Ms Tanuvasa says she'll eat anything that's put on her plate and eats plenty of fish. She says the secret to a long life is good Samoan food and a birthday cake.
