A fire at a timber processing plant in Taupo is under control, but firefighters expect to be there overnight.

The plant, on Manuka St in the suburb of Tauhara, is owned by New Zealand Timber Packaging.

Silos full of sawdust were on fire, threatening a nearby building.

At least 10 crews attended the blaze, called in from as far away as Rotorua and Tokoroa.

No one was at the plant when the fire began. No one was hurt.
