There is concern that school staff returning to work early to deal with the Novopay debacle won't be compensated for cutting short their holidays.
Since the system was introduced in August more than 8000 complaints have been logged, with many teachers underpaid, overpaid or not paid at all.
The Education Ministry's Group Manager Rebecca Elvy says she's "very concerned" staff are back at work early but won't say if they'll be paid:
"We haven't ruled that out completely at all – what we want to do is fix the system first, and when we know that the system is fixed, then we can consider what options there are around doing that."
The latest salary payments were due in overnight.
Yesterday it was revealed schools have had to pay more than $500,000 in advances to staff due to the error-riddled Novopay system.
From August to November last year, 581 teachers were paid for work at schools where they've never worked. More than 7500 were underpaid or not paid at all by Novopay and more than 15,000 calls to Novopay's service centre have gone unanswered or were abandoned since it went live.
The Education Ministry says its priority has always been to ensure that teachers and other school staff are paid correctly and on time, and arrangements are being made to reimburse schools.
