Police are hunting for a gunman in Southland after a woman was shot at a residential property on Tuesday evening.
The Armed Offenders Squad responded to reports of a shooting near the Ōtātara Four Square in Invercargill just after 6:30pm.
A woman has been taken to Southland Hospital and is currently in a critical condition, but the alleged offender is still on the run.
There is not believed to be any danger to the public at this time, but police are asking residents in the area to secure their properties and avoid the area.
Cordons are in place near Oreti Beach, and a helicopter has been used to assist with the search for the offender.
