A Christchurch sporting goods store is in clean-up mode after being ransacked in an early morning ram-raid.

Thieves smashed a car into Anderson & Hill Sports Power at Spreydon's Barrington Mall around 3am.

They took shoes, clothing, footwear and sunglasses, owners Mark and Deb Carter told Newshub.

"Tomorrow's our busiest day - beginning of the summer season, cricket starts," said Ms Carter.

"We just hope that our local folk are here to support us as we launch into this and work through our stocktake."

The hoodie-wearing offenders were caught on security camera. Nike and Adidas items were singled out.

Despite offers from the local community to help clean up, the Carters are not looking forward to it.

"It'll be the good old-fashioned broom, shovel, gloves," said Ms Carter. "It's just a mess."

First they have to wait for detectives to a forensic investigation.

Police are searching for the car involved in the ram-raid. Anyone with information is urged to call Christchurch police on (03) 363 7400, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
